Manageable Days Ahead

The last quarter of the year is nearly upon us, and the anticipation of the fall’s cooling of the air is here. If we take a step back in the year 2026, what do we see? Do you observe the year with pride or a fear of not doing enough?

Manageable expectations require acceptance of the seasons as they are, and the ways we showed up without clouded judgment or a desire to fill every calendar day.

The approaching holidays can be met with feelings of excitement or the impending blues. As the year’s end approaches, I explore a cautionary tale. Family expectations, added responsibilities, grief work, among other sensitive feelings, add to a multi-layered existence.

I encourage others to settle into the changing seasons, with a gathered breath and a compassionate gaze. In looking forward to the ‘Ber months ahead, exercise management of expectations within your capacity to extend grace to the year you have had, in its trials or triumphs, for emerging ahead into the following weeks and an approaching new year. With a sightline of capacity, this allows a considerate approach to view the year you have had, one that allows for the renewal of efforts to oppose cultures of overextension and exertion.

What will you take with you into the last quarter of the year? What will you shed in your storied chapters?
