The Art of Noticing
Do you notice a room’s subtle soundtrack? From the air vents to the clock striking a new hour. Slowing down and noticing the details allows for a mindful moment to consider the present. This noticing allows a grounded reflection at any given time of the day. I notice how my body feels following an intense workout and identify the areas that need extra care the next day. I notice how my heart’s rhythm drums along and how my breath keeps me still. It’s a reminder to slow down in the middle of the chaos around us.
Noticing allows us to slow down with intention and consideration for pace. With an all-encompassing world, this allows for a settling to happen in the nervous system. I notice the textures around me, the aroma of a meal, and the taste of my coffee in the morning. The grounding I gain from these moments is relieving.
To be present is both a skill and a privilege in noticing the mundane. This is a reminder that I’m human with bodily and mindful functions as I exist on earth. As spring resurfaces, I encourage you to pause and notice the small occurrences around you, from the light rain to the emerging buds on the ground and the green grass that will grow. The art of noticing is what you make it to be. These are the points that make it ring true for me. What do you notice the most in your day-to-day?
