Grieving in the Present
What does it mean to grieve? Grief may be defined as the natural process of loss and the experience of intense emotions. Loss isn’t examined only through the lens of a physical bond. Loss can be the dreams and hopes for your life. It’s the pain of having love with no clear direction. Grief is the unexpected season when the smallest reminders are painful recollections. Grief is the tender moments that wash over you in remembrance of that person, place or ideal version of you. As abstract as grief may present, it’s a reminder of our humanness and its intricacies.
Certain moments bring gentle reminders of both life and loss. Seeing or experiencing loss allows us, over time, to grow and learn from those experiences. These moments of grief can be quiet or loud and overwhelming.
A renewal of hope through grieving a past version of oneself is a re-emerging act. It’s the image of tree buds blooming at the welcome of a new spring season.
Living in the abstract of grief and loss is inevitable. Choosing to heal around loss is a loving action. Mourning through the customary and comforting may serve as a reminder of such waves of existence. It can also be a loving action in the love through loss.
